There is no being without relation. Things, selves, and events are not separate entities that only connect afterwards. Relation is primary and appears as things, as self, as world.
What is real is what becomes effective within this relational field. Reality shows itself in its effects: in the shifting of what becomes possible.
There is no outside of the world. No neutral standpoint beyond relation from which one could act, judge, or shape. What happens, happens as world and through us.
Not everything that is effective is available to us. What remains unavailable is relation itself: the possibility that the Other remains effective as Other within the field. Where shaping abolishes this possibility, effectiveness becomes destruction.
There are points at which relation reveals its entanglement and observation can no longer remain neutral.
Guilt is not a possession of persons, but a state of the field when relation is damaged. Forgiveness changes the field. Nothing is undone.
Power operates at the ground of what becomes possible. Violence destroys this ground. Justice is work on the field from which injustice has emerged.
Dignity is not a property, but a limit to availability: the impossibility of abolishing relation itself.
It is not the acceptance of the world that makes us free. What makes us free is the insight that I never stand outside the world.
